About Me

The Big Guy, Me, Michael W. Smith
Gee, what to say? Well, not to bore you with all the details. So here are few random facts about me. I enjoy spending time with my husband. My favorite drink is Dr. Pepper preferably the kind bottled in Dublin, TX. San Augustine, FL and Vancouver, BC are two of the coolest places I have visited. As a child I had a pet cow named Mrs. Darling and dogs named Polly, Patrice, Bouncer and Duchess.
I enjoy theme parks we recently visited Universal Studios Orlando. Other parks I have visited include Walt Disney World Florida (excluding the water parks), Sea World Orlando, Silver Springs, 6 Flags Over Texas, 6 Flags Mid-America, Disney Land, and Silver Dollar City. Disney’s Magic Kingdom is my favorite park. Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is my favorite coaster. Other favorite rides include Soaring at EPCOT and The Mummy at Universal Studios Orlando. Walt Disney World especially EPCOT and Sea World Orlando have the best theme park food.
In 2006, I was invited to become the editor of HomeschoolBenefits.org and discovered I actually enjoyed writing. Growing up I never enjoyed writing and would do anything to get out of writing assignments in school. I have dyslexia and dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is a form of dyslexia that affects fine motors skills and the ability to write legibly. It was the actual process of transmitting ideas to paper that made writing so painful. Thanks to several elementary school teachers that ignored my learning disability and punished me for poor handwriting by the time I reached middle school I hated both school and writing. You can check out more of my writing on HomeschoolBenefits.org

Hey Dee,
Yes, I did have Dr. Rainey for Greek and other classes. I’m grateful to have had him as a spiritual marker in my life.
I had a great university experience at HPU. I was on staff at Lake Brownwood Baptist Church, the Baptist Encampment and then at Eastside Baptist in Comanche. My current church is sponsoring a church plant in Blanket at this time.
Blessings,

Hi,
Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting.
I see ADHD in the headline and that made me think about my friend who is doing a “Myth Busters” for ADD.
http://blog.neatandsimple.com/2008/02/how-i-survived.html
She is doing almost like a blog carnival about it.
Let me know if you want more information.
or I can e-mail it to you.

HSB doesn’t have a way for comments yet. Hopefully that can be added. However, I’m starting to add something here for HSB Post so comments can be left. However you do have my email from my comments.

Hey Dee, I had to check out your site…We have much in common. I homeschooled three kids for 17 years and loved it. I have taught a lot of dyslexic children to play piano. My son is dyslexic. I adore Dr. Pepper. Never had a pet cow, though. Way too big for me. LOL.

Obviously the cow didn’t live in FW but at my grandparents. More things in commons are you a Texan & a Baptist as well?

Thanks for dropping by. I enjoyed your comment and have responded, hopefully clarifying matters a bit. I totally resonate on handwriting struggles and nasty teachers, and similarly have been freed by the keyboard to actually discover that I love to write, now even in longhand – tho still messily…
