Last week I was busy working on my laptop when I got that annoying low battery message. I thought I had plugged the thing in. Well I checked the back of the computer and it was connected. Checked the cord and both parts were connected. Upon further investigation I discovered that the plug was sitting on top of the power strip but not actually plugged in as a result the batteries were drained and not recharging.
I was reminded at how the Christian walk is like that. It is easy to surround one’s self with Bible, Christian books & music, Christian friends, and even church without really being plugged in. Unless I take the time to personally dig into the Word just like my laptop my batteries will run out.
Friday is always my favorite day at work. It is the only day I get to wear jeans. Today I wore my favorite pair of Eddie Bauer jeans, my new shirt I found at Target and Doc Marten’s.
A friend is participating in a 30 Day Challenge. I think the photography challenge is really for professional photographers, I’m not one. I just enjoy playing with my camera. There are a couple of days I may substitute something else for the day’s challenge. Also, I’m sure it is going to take me more than 30 days to complete.
Day 1: Self-Portrait
Not really happy with this one. I just wasn’t able to come up with one I liked.
Trunk that belonged to my great-great grandparents.
This trunk belonged to my great-great-parents. They brought it across the Mississippi River in a covered wagon when they moved out West in the late 1800′s. We shipped it back east in a moving truck when we moved to the east coast in a the early 2000′s.
Yes, that is right for the first time ever the Rangers are the league champs. The Texas Rangers are going to the World Series for the first time ever!!! In the Rangers first three post-season appearances they only won a total of one game. Twice they were swept by the New York Yankees. So, I was rather nervous about playing the Yankees for the league championship.
I hurt my ankle this weekend and have been forced to stay off it. I have too much time on my hands so I have spent some time surfing the web. Found this on you tube. It seems that guys very bored with a lot of cash and decided to put some smart phones to the grill test. That is right these guys decided to throw an Android, WinPho7 and iPhone4 on the grill and see which one would last longer. Continue…
This is my last post for 2010. Gee, seems like the year has just started. I guess this is the point where I’m supposed to write some sort of illuminating treatise full of great wisdom. It I’m all out of witty sayings and wisdom right now. I do have a few observations for the year. Read More…
Built between 1672-1695, the Castillo de San Marcos is still an imposing structure. It was built by the Spanish to protect the town of San Augustine. It was constructed from coquina and built in a star shape. Despite numerous assaults and the town changing hands the fortress was never conquered. One purpose of the fort was to provide a place of refuge and shelter during enemy assaults for towns people. During one attack by the British each day the Castillo was bombard by cannons from ships. Each night the Spanish troops would remove cannon balls from the fortress walls. Each morning the fortress showed no visible damage. Continue…
This weekend the Big Guy was rather engrossed in his school work. It seemed like every time I attempted to say anything to him he just didn’t hear me. Or for that matter even respond. On Sunday, the Big Guy told me he knew what happened. His explanation was that he thinks in words so he couldn’t figure out if he was hearing his thoughts or me. (Yep, I know voices in the head. I could have fun with that one but I won’t). He went on to say that the way he thinks or learning style is why he doesn’t hear me and that he can only focus on one thing at a time. Well, my response is that my thoughts are more like movies complete with sights, sounds and sometimes smell. I could be in another room doing something else and hear what he is saying. Then followed a conversation about how he was not gifted with ADHD like I am. Original Post
need to come up with more lists. It is just hard to get inspired sometimes. This one came to me when I was supposed to be doing something else.
#10: In Alabama, you may not have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time. This is the law that sparked the list. The speaker mentioned it in a training I was attending last week. Read More…
Today begins the first in a series on disabilities. I don’t claim to be an expert. My opinions and knowledge come from life experiences, education and work experience.
My dad was a polio survivor. For most of his life he walked with the aid of crutches and braces (the old heavy metal kind). My dad grew up in a time when there was little accommodations in school, work or life. From my perspective he wasn’t disabled, handicapped or whatever label you want to call it. His legs just didn’t work very well. He was very intelligent and a gifted singer. He had one of those very deep resonate bass voices. Growing up I couldn’t understand why some people told me my dad was handicapped. To me he was my dad. I had more problems with his being too strict or old-fashioned (in my opinion) than “handicapped.” I also saw and heard the way people treated him. Sometimes people would stare at him or ask what was his problem. If the person who asked was a child my dad would always give a simple but honest answer. Continue…
