One Small Child/We Three King
Performed by The Blenders
The Blenders, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, preformed a unique style of vocal harmony-based music. Their music is a combination of original music as well as adaptations of favorite songs. They have been described as, “one of America’s best-kept vocal secrets”. Personally, I hadn’t heard of them until I discovered the above song on Youtube.

Found this one on Youtube the other day. It is one of those that songs that really makes you think.
Preformed by Beck Kelly
Song and Lyrics by Steve Haupt & Chris Loesch
Christmas time was approaching
Snow was starting to fall
Shoppers choosing their presents
People filling the mallChildren waiting for Santa
With excitement and glee
A little boy tugged my sweater
Looked up and asked meWhere’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday
Why don’t we see Him more?As I stood in amazement
At this message profound
I looked down to thank him
He was no where aroundThe little boy at the mall
Might as well have had wings
As the tears filled my eyes
Thought I heard him singWhere’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday
Why don’t we see Him more?Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for m
Santa Claus brought me presents
But Christ gave His life for meIn the blink of an eye
At the sound of His trump
We’ll all stand in line at His throne
Every knee shall bow down
Every tongue will confess
That Jesus Christ is Lord(Repeat Chorus)
Where’s the line?
Where’s the line?Where’s the line for the Lord?
Story behind the song
While at the mall a couple of years ago, my (Kelly’s) then four-year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, “where’s the line to see Jesus”? My sister (Kelly’s) mentioned this to my dad (Kelly’s), who immediately became inspired and jotted words down to a song in just a few minutes. After putting music to the words, and doing a quick recording at home, he received a great response from friends. Read more

Haiti was a country in turmoil before the earthquake that rocked Haiti almost a year. Education plays a vital role in opening doors and helping people pull themselves out of poverty. The Haitian government can only afford to provide an education for about 10% the children in the country.
Texas Baptist has launched a partnership with Siloe Baptist School in Grand-Guave, Haiti to help provide an education for children. For $15 a month you can sponsor a child and help change a life.

Last year I posted a prayer request for a friend’s nephew Josh. It has been a little over a year since the accident. The video below chronicles Josh’s progress.

The piece I wrote about unusual team mascots has been one of the most popular posts I’ve written. I decided to do a second list. Several of the teams in this list were from the comments of the 1st list. This time I have included college mascots as well. Also, I have only included official mascots. This eliminated mascots like Delta State Fighting Okra. While Mr. Okra is an unusual mascot the schools official mascot it the Statesmen.
#10 Blooming Prairie (MN) High School Awesome Blossoms: While the mascot does look mean for a flower, it isn’t that intimidating. Wonder if they have some sort of sponsorship with Outback Steakhouse.
#9 Chickasha (OK) Fightin’ Chicks:
#8 Sheldon (IA) High School Orabs: The name is a combination of orange and black.
#7 Speedway (IN) High School Sparkplugs: The town of Speedway is on the west side of Indianapolis. Actually I think the mascot is pretty cool looking.
#6 Poca High School (WV) “Dots” : While not very threatening it is appropriate.
#5 Scottsdale (AZ) Community College Fighting Artichokes: It seems that the students chose the Artie the Artichoke as the college mascot in as form of protest. The students were furious because they felt too much money was being spent to make the school a junior college sports powerhouse. The other ran three choices for mascot were the rutabaga, and the scoundrel. At first the administration voided the election, but the artichoke stuck around long after the political fight ended.
#4Yuma (AZ) High School Criminals: Apparently the nickname Criminals started out as an insult against the team from a rival team. At one time Yuma High was housed in what had been a territorial prison.
#3 Boiling Springs (PA) High School Bubblers: Couldn’t find a logo for this one.
#2: Lone Oak (KY) High School Purple Flash: Couldn’t find any information about the origin of the mascot. But because purple is my favorite color, they have made it to the top of my list.
#1: Texas Christian University Horned Frogs: In doing research for this post I discovered TCU Horned Frogs listed on another list of unusual team mascots. Being from Ft. Worth I was pleasantly I really never thought about a horned frog as being unusual. A horned frog or horny toad as it is called is really a lizard not a frog. Horny toads are indigenous to the Southwest United States.
