Early Saturday August 8th, MercyMe’s tour bus was involved in a collision with a car.

The band was leaving a late night concert in Ft Wort Wayne, Indiana. Apparently, the bus  had a green light and was traveling through an intersection when a car pulled in front of it.  Two passengers and the drivers unborn  child were killed. The driver is in critical condition.  No one the bus was seriously injured.

MercyMe has more about the accident on their blog. However, I haven’t been able to get it to load.

Clunkers and Health Care

The Cash for Clunkers program is a good example of why I’m concerned about government run health care. In theory the Cash for Clunkers it a great program. However it just wasn’t well thought out and has quickly run into serious problems.

Some changes need to be made in our health care system but I do not like the idea of the government running health care. I’m fine with the option of a government subsided program for those who want or need it. However, I just don’t want to be forced into the program.

In July, my alma mater Hardin-Simmons University received two well deserved honors.  Yes, that is my unbiased opinion.

The Chronicle for Higher Education named HSU one of the top ten colleges to work for in the small school division (under 3,000). The results were based upon a nationwide survey of  about 41,000 employees on 247 campuses.

The Princeton Review selected HSU as one of its Best of The West regional schools. Each year the Princeton Review selects about 25 percent of the nations colleges and universities as top regional schools. My time on the 40 acres was a good time. For me Hardin-Simmons was the right school. I gained far more than just a good education.

The Next Food Network Star: … And The Winner Is …

Home cook Melissa d’Arabian won season 5 of the Next Food Network Star.  Melissa a former business woman is a stay-at-home mother of 4 from Kellar, Texas. Melissa’s show Kitchen Survival will premiere Sunday August 9th.

This is the first time a non-professional has won. In the past it has seemed that the one or two home cooks where there just to appease fans.  Melissa got off to a rocky star but showed the most progress.  She actually listened to the judges criticism and took corrective actions.  I am looking forward to seeing her show. Oh, I plan to try her 4-step chicken sometime this week.
